Sometimes the ways of the world outlast true emotions in the race of life.
The Porsche, the elusive American dream, our need for material things that we can touch, see, smell,
outweighs love, appreciation, gratitude.

We dedicate one day, just one day to our mothers, fathers
And just limit it to that one day where everyone scrambles to express their feelings.
Why can’t every day be Mother’s Day or Father’s Day?

We celebrate life everyday, don’t we?
We thank God, live each day like there’s no tomorrow,
Appreciate life and cherish it.

So why not do the same for your parents?
For the people who gave so much to raise us up.
Why just do everything on one day and remain quiet and shy on the other 364 days?

Maybe you think its superficial,
Maybe you think its ingratitude.
Maybe you don’t really know me yet.

Sometimes the ways of the world outlast true emotions in the race of life.

——————————————————————————————————————————————-

Dad,

Sometimes people don’t have to change for what others think or how the world operates. What makes us humans so special is that we have a mind of our own. We’re grown ups dad, we don’t just succumb to what the world does and follow suit. We question and if necessary, we rebel.

Maybe you don’t understand because the ways were different in your era. Maybe you were thought not to question and just follow what the herd did. But not now. And you should change cos its not the “good ole days” now dad. Times have changed and you need to adapt. Its my identity dad, you cannot downright belittle it.

I don’t know what the fuss is all about. But it hurt me more to see you do it than anyone else. It wasn’t anything I would have expected of you. In fact, I expected mum to do what you did. But she didn’t. She stood up for me and said Joy has a mind of her own. Maybe I underrate her too much and expect too much from you. Maybe I should change my view of things at home and respect mum more than I do.

Its about time I do. At the end of the day, she bore me, she raised me, she made me who I am now such that I can raise my head up high and face the world. Not that you didn’t have anything to do with it, but I think she raised 3 kids – me, Priya and You. And she had to put up with all that anger you threw at her. All of it, and she never once complained.

No one’s perfect in this world, but what makes her perfect is that she’s a mother. They say God could not be everywhere so He made mothers. Its about time I return the favour and give her the respect she deserves.
